Steve Koebernick
Owner, Technical Operations Manager, ASE-Certified Master Technician, L1 Advanced Engine Diagnostics Specialist

A master of intricate technical automotive challenges, Steve is the guy we can all count on. He's worked at Dakota K most of his adult life, after helping his father, the founder, in the shop and pumping gasoline for customers as a teen. Not only did Steve complete high school early, but he's a graduate of Wyoming Tech, has completed his Service Electronic Training and attained a certificate in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago. When he's not diagnosing the intermittent issues or emissions problems that our customers bring to us on a daily basis, Steve is spending time with his wife Karen and their two children, Jason and Kim.

Burt Ziskind
ASE-Certified Service Advisor

It seems as though everyone in the community knows Burt. A friendly face in the shop, Burt makes it a point to get to know each of our customers. After graduating from the University at St. Louis and running his own business for 22 years, Burt joined the team at Dakota K and we couldn't be more thrilled. Not only has Burt owned his own business and become an accomplished Service Advisor, but he's the father to three grown kids, Lauren, Alexandra and Aaron, and has been the husband of Ellen for more than 30 years. If he's not cruising around in his 1994 Ford Mustang GT Convertible, he's walking his dog Marley or playing with our customers' pups. In fact, if you bring your dog into the shop, Burt is sure to go out of his way to say hello and give them a scratch behind the ears.

Jonathan Helms
ASE-Certified Master Technician, L1 Advanced Engine Performance and L3 Hybrid Systems Specialist

Jonathan returned to Dakota K in 2013 after serving in the Army on an assignment to repair electronics, avionics and armament for the OH-58 Delta helicopter. He is a graduate of UTI Auto Technology school and now resides in Lake Zurich. While he's ready to repair any issues you may be having with your hybrid, there's nothing he loves more than working on older cars.

Doug Shafron
ASE-Certified Technician

Meet Doug. He's obsessed with tools. He's always buying the newest and best tools, and the other shop technicians are grateful. If ever they need a special tool, it's almost a guarantee that Doug has it. And as the technology in cars continues to grow, so will his obsession. A graduate of Lincoln Technical University, Doug began working at Dakota K in 2009 and has proven to be a very reliable technician ever since. In addition to his love of tools, Doug loves spending time with his daughter, Katie, and can often be found in the great outdoors hunting, fishing or camping.

John (Red) Hilton
ASE-Certified Technician

An extremely motivated and conscientious employee, Red has been a part of the Dakota K family since 2008. A graduate of Lincoln Technical Institute, Red is ASE Certified and is currently working on getting his L1 Master Tech certification. Red loves spending time with his two sons, JJ and Paul, whether fishing, hunting or helping out with Cubs Scouts. Another shop dog lover, Red has two dogs: Rex and Penny, a 135-pound Mastiff.

Robert Kroczak
ASE-Certified Technician

If your car has been serviced by Robert, you can rest assured knowing your car is in good hands. Robert's attention to detail is what makes him such a valuable part of our team. He'll not only inform you have any issues your car may have, but he'll let you know what to look out for in the future. A graduate of Bielawa Tech, Robert has been with us since 2000. When he's not in the shop, he's spending time with his wife, Bozena, and their three kids, Paulina, Jessica and Paul.

Ken Peralta
General Service Technician

Ken is all about continuing education and training. He's always up-to-date on the newest maintenance techniques and is constantly encouraging those around him to stay current on best practices. He joined the Dakota K team in 2011 and loves working on a variety of old and new cars.

Brayan Juarez
Apprentice Technician

Ever since he can remember, Brayan's hobby has been cars. Apparently, he doesn't get enough of it in the shop because he's always working on an automotive project in his free time. A newer member to the team, Brayan joined Dakota K in 2015 after earning his Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from Triton College. He currently lives in Wheeling with his wife and son.

Megan Winebrenner
Service Advisor

If you're looking for an automotive expert, Megan's your gal. She joined Dakota K in 2016 after spending nearly three decades in the business. Starting as a diesel mechanic, she became an ASE-Certified Master Technician and Master Diesel Technician before turning to a Service Advisor role. So when she tells you that routine maintenance will extend your vehicle's life - trust her, she knows what she's talking about. Throughout her time working in the automotive industry, her favorite part has been seeing the new changes to the technology and tools in recent years.

Excellent service, I had no brakes. Pedal to the floor on my 05 Tahoe. Turns out the lines were rusted/rotted. Replaced with better materials all lines, hoses and fittings. Brakes are rock solid now. And all for a reasonable (yet still painful lol) price. Sometimes having an older vehicle just means this stuff needs to be done. Very pleased.

Amazing service. I came to the shop 2 hours before closing on Saturday. Muffler on my Nissan got loose and apparently detached from the exhaust. They've inspected the car and showed me where the problem was, recommended optimal and inexpensive fix, spent a great deal of time calling local suppliers to locate the proper part and got the job done before closing. Staff was very nice and professional. Job was done fast and inexpensive. Great local shop. Highly recommended.
